Automation projects are often perceived as technology-driven endeavours, yet behind the technology, there exists the design and coding of knowledge that forms the foundation of artificial intelligence.
While we utilized cutting-edge software solutions in our quest to automate records management in Auckland Transport, our success hinged on more than just software – we needed to design the right instruments to navigate the complexities of modern recordkeeping. To do this we needed to unbake the cake.
"Unbaking the cake" is a metaphorical phrase which describes the process of undoing something that has already been accomplished or finalised. It involves breaking it down into its constituent parts and then reconstituting the parts into something new.
We dismantled established IM instruments: faceted classification schemes, business activity classification schemes, keyword thesauri, disposal authorities, breaking them down to their core components. Then, we reconstructed them into data models optimized for machine processing. Through this process, we guaranteed that our methodology was both resilient and aligned with modern recordkeeping standards.
By reimagining these tools within the context of the modern era, we transcended traditional limitations and unlocked unprecedented efficiency and effectiveness in managing records.
Our journey to automation in Auckland Transport has delivered a viable, adaptable model that can be readily adopted by records and information managers, empowering them with the necessary tools and capabilities to deal with the emerging challenges of AI solutions.
