ACN releases position statement on Artificial Intelligence
AI's integration into nursing care offers transformative potential but also presents significant challenges. As AI advances, it is crucial for the nursing profession to keep pace with these developments, understanding the benefits, limitations, and risks involved. Key issues include maintaining data privacy, ethics, managing data bias, and ensuring equitable access. To address these, nurses specialising in informatics should be included in AI management bodies, and the profession must stay abreast of healthcare advancements. Nursing informaticians should be integral to AI application, ensuring adherence to Australian standards, while nurses must play a central role in AI design, implementation, and evaluation. Additionally, nursing should actively participate in developing data governance models based on principles of integrity, transparency, and accountability.
