Advocating for Greater Recognition: RIMPA’s Role in Strengthening Occupational Classification
In response to the recent comprehensive review of the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO), RIMPA Global provided key recommendations to ensure the classification accurately reflects the evolving role of practitioners in the industry.
The final stage of the ANZSCO review attracted over 200 individual submissions, with a primary focus on structural changes. As a result of RIMPA Global’s advocacy, the occupation title “Records Manager” has been updated to “Records or Information Manager” (223935)—a crucial step in acknowledging the broader responsibilities and strategic value of information management professionals.
While not all recommendations were implemented, the classification is now entering a maintenance phase, during which further refinements will be considered. RIMPA Global will remain engaged in this process, ensuring that the occupation’s description evolves alongside technological advancements and industry trends.
RIMPA Global’s ongoing collaboration with industry bodies and government agencies underscores the importance of accurate occupational recognition in statistical data. Proper classification enhances the visibility of the profession, informs workforce planning, and strengthens advocacy efforts for industry-wide advancements.
We appreciate the engagement of our members in this process and will continue working to secure greater recognition for the profession.
