An update on all things Advocacy

RIMPA CEO Anne Cornish sits on the ACoP Board to advocate for issues impacting information management and society. ACoP supports the Voice to Parliament and explores diversity, equity, and inclusion.

RIMPA's commitment to effective social programming extends beyond the realm of information management, and as such, RIMPA's CEO Anne Cornish sits on the ACoP Board (Australian Council of Professions) to advocate for a variety of topics that impact both the information management industry and our social environment.

Through this collaboration, RIMPA seeks to expand member options for advocacy and deepen our understanding of how to effect positive change. By working with organisations such as ACoP, RIMPA is able to broaden its perspective and develop a more comprehensive approach to social programming.

Together, we can create a more sustainable future that benefits both the information management industry and the broader community.

Future of Working and Australia 2040

Our ‘Creating Australia 2040 – Education & Employability' Summit together with our Future of Working Roundtable provided much food for thought and an excellent springboard for further discussion on the very timely topic of the ‘future of working’.

Our Chief Futurist, Dr Simon Eassom together with our Head of Education and Employability, Lynette Harris, are working on exploring the emerging themes from these events, such as the changing nature of the professions as digital technologies transform the way professionals work; the need for universities, industry and professional associations to work closely to develop and ensure success of entrants into professions; and inclusive frameworks and approaches to an equitable working future.

We also continue this conversation by sharing the recently published report by research company Autonomy from their work that was undertaken in the UK on their 4-Day week pilot. One of the key standouts from the research was that the trial was a resounding success with 92% of the companies that participated, continuing with the four-day week and 30% confirming the policy is a permanent change.

But is a 4-day work week really what professionals would want in 2040? And how does this stack up in Australia? Stay tuned as we explore these themes further.

Voice to Parliament

There is much debate, discourse and discussion taking place across our nation as individuals, leaders and communities work through the implications of a Voice to Parliament. So how do we, as a collective of leaders and professionals, contribute meaningfully to the outcome?

Our President Klaus Veil together with our Office of the CEO are currently engaging with you, our member organisations on collating your views on the Voice to Parliament so we can prepare a position on behalf of ACoP. The consensus so far is that ACoP should support 'The Voice’ as it will contribute to bringing our First Nations people closer to the forums where policy is debated, formulated and implemented.

However, should ACoP support the broad goals rather than focus on details? This is now being considered by the team and we will share these details with you as our position is developed. If you have a particular view that you would like to express, please email us at [email protected]!

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

We are also navigating a more ‘human’ approach to diversity, equity and inclusion on topics that we are currently addressing here at ACoP such as gender, neurodiversity and First Nations issues.

Part of this approach is to connect one-on-one with you, our Members as leaders within your respective associations, and by extension, the professions you represent, to explore your thoughts, ideas and vision on these topics. Our aim is to collate the responses and produce a paper that can serve as an ‘exemplar’ on how ACoP’s membership base is addressing the issues of parity and inclusion in your respective professional associations and professions.

Our Head of Diversity, Culture and Inclusion, Angelina Pillai, looks forward to getting in touch with each of you, our Members, in the coming weeks to schedule an interview time to explore your views.
