In this hands-on, practical workshop you will explore the interplay between IG policies and corporate culture. We will evaluate several advanced techniques for drafting policies, standards, and procedures all aimed at encouraging buy-in from others and promoting compliance.
Over the course of the session, we will look at:
- creating a robust and flexible framework that can keep up with constantly changing legal, technical, and other environmental factors
- reducing architectural complexity by standardizing the position of key elements, differentiating policy from procedure, and finding a home for related content like definitions and roles and responsibilities
- finding the right balance to avoid a dictatorial tone while maintaining authority and meeting requirementsThis workshop will help both experienced policy writers and novices increase the overall engagement of the organization with information-related activities. It will equip you with the tools needed to add value to your organization through a suite of policies that both meet legal and regulatory requirements and foster a culture of collaboration and respect. There will be lots of opportunities for group discussion and practice exercises.
- an understanding of cultural elements that are foundational to effective IG policies
- a system to establish criteria to set the right scope: what to include and what to omit
- techniques for achieving the right tone: how to sound strict without sounding bossy

The AI revolution, led by Microsoft Copilot, is set to transform document analysis, report generation, and streamline processes, offering immense productivity potential. For instance, Copilot can efficiently analyse and categorise vast amounts of information, including documents, images, and videos, thereby saving significant time and effort. This is getting records managers excited: will it automate their records management?
Recent research reveals a critical flaw in AI: without significant context, it tends to hallucinate, generating false information up to 88% of the time. US regulators now caution against potential biases and inaccuracies. Context is particularly crucial in records management, and the current trend of in-place management increases those challenges. Studies indicate that in-place management often lacks sufficient context for accurate records, leading to higher costs and increased risks. So how do we get the best out of AI?

Our culture of business is broken. The relentless pursuit of growth for growth’s sake, no matter the cost; more over better; profit without purpose; manipulating customers and employees for optimisation and efficiency; taking no responsibility for community or the planet - it’s not sustainable.
People are holding organisations accountable, and even the mighty are falling on account of poor culture. Companies are realising they must create value not only for shareholders, but for all - customers, employees, suppliers and the community. Organisations want to change, even if only because they know it’s the only way to survive and grow. But they need help.
André shares with us the Human Business Manifesto - a model for changing the culture of business for good.

The year 2024, will be the 40th Anniversary of two significant flights in 1984 from Cairo to Melbourne that carried the first Black African refugees to settle in Australia. This marked the beginning of a migration pathway that is still used today by Horn of Africans (Horners), growing the Eritrean, Ethiopian, Somali and Oromo diaspora communities in Victoria. This project seeks to unify the Horners communities and increase access to African history in Australia while providing a platform for artistic experimentation and cultural exchange.

It explains why getting your Information Assets in order is critical for success and what to do about it.

As organisations increasingly rely on technology, the need for effective ITSM becomes paramount. At its core, ITSM lets businesses more effectively design, deliver, manage, and improve how their IT is used, which ensures that IT services support business objectives and deliver value.
ITSM streamlines operations by standardising and automating routine processes, letting businesses significantly reduce manual efforts and errors. This efficiency reduces costs while freeing up valuable resources to focus on more strategic initiatives rather than daily operations.

The purpose of this paper is to highlight the significance of Information Management in increasing the efficiency of an organization.
Various studies in this stream have observed that measuring IM efficiency plays a significant role in improving organizational productivity and ultimately increasing revenue. Today, professionals round the globe spend 5–15 percent of their time reading information and up to 50 percent looking for it. One of the prime reason for the same is the unstructured information management.
This paper would highlight the various practices in information management and indicate the existing gaps in the stream.
Paper also proposes a way forward by suggesting implementation of Key Performance Indicators to measure the performance of people, process and systems specific to Information Management.

Digital preservation cannot be left for the archivists alone; it requires active involvement from all responsible parties within the record lifecycle. With a steady increase in born digital records across the Queensland Government, alongside an ever-changing digital landscape, more is now required from agencies to successfully maintain this material beyond the limits of technological failure or change. As Queensland State Archives (QSA) prepares to roll out its Digital Archive, we recognise that this challenge is not just reserved for permanent value records (which make up only a small percentage of public records), but also those records that need to be retained by agencies for the medium to long term. This raises the question: do we need to incorporate digital preservation into current records management processes to provide complete, reliable, and accessible information throughout government?
As QSA actively engage with the wider Queensland Government to elicit a better understanding of the ecosystem at play for born digital records, we are not only preparing agencies for how they can utilise the Digital Archive, but we are also identifying how we bring digital preservation directly to them for their own business needs.

Most of us know that “intangible assets” make up a big part of the value of our businesses. But if they account for over 90% of our company worth, what is the magic 1% that really determines what makes us valuable, sets us apart from our competition and helps us grow sustainably?
This will be an interactive, challenging (and fun) look at your business from a completely different perspective.

With one cybersecurity related incident reported to Australian law enforcement every 6 minutes, the frequency and impact of cybersecurity breaches continues to grow. Despite the headline-grabbing megabreaches of the last few years, however, our experience demonstrates that organisations remain unprepared - both from a prevention as well as a response perspective.
In real world experience, what this means is that cyber breaches that could be avoided if for sensible cyber hygiene practices continue to harm organisations and people. What we also see is that when an incident does occur, organisations who have fallen victim are simply not ready to deal with the crisis that ensues. This results in organisations experiencing operational disruption, financial harm, reputational damage and ultimately leads to costly litigation that drags the adverse reputation harm out even further.
In this presentation, Tony Vizza will discuss some of the fundamental security issues that exist with organisations that have failed to identify risks, protect from those risks, detect cyber risks, respond to realised risks and recover from those risk eventualities. The presentation will highlight strategies related to cyber risk management from a data management and governance perspective and will illustrate the operational costs that exist for organisations who are not ready for the inevitable cyber incident. Finally, Tony will discuss strategies that organisations can employ that will assist them minimise their cyber risk, maximise the effectiveness of their incident response approaches and achieve better operational efficiency and business risk management as a result

With a need to minimise spend, maximise investment, and reduce effort (and expenditure), a business decision was made to use M365 as an EDRMS. With no corporate knowledge we started an adventure. We answered the question, 'how can we best get to know M365 with the aim of using it as an EDRMS?' We ate the elephant one bite at a time. (The Only Way to Eat an Elephant | Psychology Today) We sourced external knowledge, paid (contractor + AW) and unpaid (community of practices, webinars, networks). We had management support.Speakers

It is easy to say that, in a world of modern technology, our data is automatically more secure and accurate, but when the digital age is in constant battle with misinformation spread on social media, hackers, and data systems that cannot keep up with demand, how far can we truly say we have come in terms of managing medical data, and is there anything we could learn from our ancient counterparts?
This presentation will discuss the roots of medical information management in the western world, how it developed later in time, and what we must consider in order to improve our current standards to ensure even more secure and efficient means of managing medical information. How have the recording and management of medical information of yesterday impacted the approaches today?

Every time an IT Admin says ‘we’ll just buy another server’ a fairy dies. Thankfully for the fairies, cloud computing has changed the game for information storage. Unfortunately for many organisations, this change has resulted in skyrocketing storage costs. To the rescue (of both fairies and organisations) comes the IM superhero.
In this session you will learn;
- How to approach data analysis to make informed information lifecycle decisions
- How to deliver tangible savings to your organisation by implementing information lifecycle
- How to define rules and processes to manage the ever-growing volume of data
AvePoint’s Bruce Berends will use practical and real-world examples for you to manage the data deluge, and of course, save the fairies.

My research project at Curtin University investigates the ongoing relevance of Records Authorities (RAs) in their current form for Australian Commonwealth agencies amidst a rapidly evolving digital information landscape.
The primary objective was to gather insights and experiences from information management professionals within these agencies. A secondary aim was to identify innovative approaches to managing retention and disposal of digital holdings in Commonwealth agencies.
The research offered participants the opportunity to share their knowledge and opinions. By identifying common challenges and potential areas of agreement, this stimulated discussion and paves the way for innovative advancements in record-keeping tools within the evolving digital world.

The International Standards Organisation Subcommittee 11 (SC 11) leads international best practice records management by providing frameworks, models, standards, and guidance for designing and implementing records practices and process.
Established in 1998, SC 11 is the home of records management experts from 52 countries, who work together to drive practice improvement in public and private organisations by creating benchmarks that influence the continuous improvement of the industry as a whole. From its beginnings with 4 working groups, the work of SC 11 now stretches across 11 working groups that cover a vast range of topics from records disposition through to the intersection of artificial intelligence and records management.
Australia is a well-established ‘strong voice’ in international records management best practice. In fact, the SC 11 foundational standard - ISO 15489 - originated from the work of Australia's records management experts. Since then, Standards Australia's Records and Document Managment Committee (IT-021) has become known world-wide for the quality of both its work and the members that it endorses to represent Australia in the international space.
This presentation will discuss the work of SC 11 and its forward plan for continued leadership in an industry that is experiencing an unprecedented rate of change in how information is created, kept, and used in day-to-day environments.

This workshop will introduce the surprising power of liberating structures through practice and experiential learning.
These so-called Liberating Structures make it easy to transform how people interact and work together to achieve much better results than what is possible with presentations, reports, and other conventional methods.
They are called Liberating Structures because they are designed to include and engage everybody.
They "liberate" everybody's contribution to the group's success through collaboration.
In this workshop we shall use some of these structures to introduce them, understand why they are valuable and how we can apply and learn more about them in our context.
