IPOLA Act Reforms

Queensland public sector agencies are gearing up for significant changes to the Information Privacy Act and Right to Information Act under the IPOLA Act reforms, set to take effect from 1 July 2025.

To assist agencies in navigating these changes, the Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC) has released updated guidelines, focusing on key areas such as timeframes, fees, and the deletion of irrelevant information under the RTI Act, as well as information sharing between agencies, law enforcement, and during disaster events under the IP Act. In total, 70 comprehensive guidelines are now available online, providing essential support and clarity for public sector staff.

In addition to the detailed guidelines, OIC has introduced four Quick Guides that cover critical aspects of the reforms, including amendments to Right to Information, changes to Information Privacy, the Mandatory Notification of Data Breach Scheme, and the updated definition of personal information. Public sector employees are encouraged to utilise these resources to enhance their understanding of the reforms and their implementation. For further assistance, agencies can access the full range of IPOLA guidelines here.
