National Archives Digital Lecture
The Annual Digital Lecture showcases innovative digital research. This year's speakers are Dr. Eleanor Drage and Dr. Kerry McInerney.
In the first part of the talk, Dr Eleanor Drage will explore how feminist and anti-racist ideas are shaking up AI regulation and governance, and why this matters for archival researchers. In the second part of the talk, Dr Kerry McInerney will examine AI ethics through the archives, or how archival theory and research can inform AI ethics. Dr McInerney will explore a range of examples of how archival research is playing a key role in AI ethics, from constructing critical genealogies of contemporary biometric surveillance and control to exploring historical analogies and parallels with the current hype around AI technologies. Following this, she will argue that archival methods and theories' rich insights on narrative, knowledge and power can provide novel insights on the politics of AI.
