The Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA) has released the National Healthcare Identifiers Roadmap

The Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA) is attempting to scale up its healthcare identifiers service through a new five-year roadmap.

The Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA) has released the National Healthcare Identifiers Roadmap 2023-2028 to enhance the use and functionality of healthcare identifiers (HIs) across the country. Developed with the Department of Health and Aged Care and Services Australia, the roadmap focuses on legislative reforms, data quality improvements, and increasing stakeholder awareness. This initiative aims to improve patient information accuracy and efficiency, ensuring continuous care across healthcare facilities and reducing the need for patients to repeatedly share their medical history​.

Part of the broader Connecting Australian Healthcare – National Healthcare Interoperability Plan 2023-2028, the roadmap supports a connected health network facilitating near real-time data exchange. It includes updates to My Health Record and new legal requirements for diagnostic imaging and pathology providers to integrate their data into the national system by the year's end. This effort is crucial for advancing digital health and supporting well-informed clinical decisions across Australia's healthcare system​.
