Updated Digital Preservation Competency Framework Now Available
Originally launched in 2022, the framework outlines the essential skills, knowledge, and competencies needed for effective digital preservation. Designed to be flexible and widely applicable, it supports professionals working across a variety of roles and organisations.
While Version 2 retains the same five competency areas and 28 skill elements as the original, it introduces updated terminology for the five skill levels, enhancing clarity. Several example activities have also been revised or added in response to feedback and evolving trends in the field.
“We’ve had lots of positive feedback on the Competency Framework, especially around using DPC CAT for skills audits,” says Sharon McMeekin, Head of Workforce Development at the DPC. “This update, while modest, gave us a great opportunity to refine the Framework and ensure it continues to reflect current best practice.”
